a single Seattle dyke exploring parenting, dog training, being gluten free, and more.

Sorry for the lack of posts for the past week. Its been a pretty busy week between school and life in general.
I had friends over for a BBQ on Monday - it was a random mix of people but everyone seemed to have fun. The weather turned out to be nice (they were threatening [...]

This blog for single queer parents by choice, written by Angela, is chronicling her journey to parenthood (she’s due in a few months - congratulations!) Its also a great resource for anyone considering the path of single LGBTQ parenthood, as she does an excellent job of expressing many of the experiences and emotions of being [...]

No. My temp dropped this morning, which means I am not pregnant. I am actually pretty okay with it, as I was starting to freak out a bit about the prospect of having a real, physical baby in my house and my life in only a few short months. So now the [...]

Or so it seems. I am actively involved with Seattle’s group for queer folks who want to have kids, yet I’m the only one who’s single. Aside from this blog, I’ve only found three other blogs about single lesbian mama: “Adventures of a Single Lesbian Mom,” “Soul Bliss,” and “One Mommy … TTC.” [...]

Yesterday was my friend R’s birthday, and she had a piñata - actually two piñatas. Hilarious! They were stuffed with candy, like all good piñatas are, and after some mighty swings (and some hilarious misses - thanks to creative piñata raising and lowering), the ground was littered with candy. We started hitting [...]

I have a garden! Its in pots thanks to dig-lovin’ dogs, though this also makes it more convenient to my kitchen. I’m growing strawberries, peppers, and a variety of herbs - as well as several other vegetables that are currently just seeds in soil. Here’s a picture of part I of my domestic food prep [...]

Yesterday I did my first round of inseminations. All things considered, they went pretty well. Some friends had really hilarious stories about their first times, but mine went off pretty smoothly … except for the dogs.
For the uninitiated, the sperm comes in a small vile stored in a large tank of liquid nitrogen. [...]

I went to the grocery store this weekend and wow, what a shock. I’d heard food prices were going up. NPR has been covering it a lot. Between my gluten free diet and eating organically, the food I buy tends to cost more than the average person’s. But I also cook [...]
