shortest rock wall ever
Sorry for the lack of posts for the past week. Its been a pretty busy week between school and life in general.
I had friends over for a BBQ on Monday – it was a random mix of people but everyone seemed to have fun. The weather turned out to be nice (they were threatening rain), and we all crowded onto the deck and hung out together.
On Sunday my lovely friend K and I built the Shortest Rock Wall Ever. The wall runs along the fence in the backyard and will keep the pups from digging their way to freedom. They had already created quite a hole under one side of the fence, a hole which I had only had partial success blocking off with tables. So much, much thanks to K for her very generous help in building the wall. To give you a sample of the challenges we faced, here is a snippet one of our conversations:
K: So why are you building this wall again?
Me: To keep the dogs from digging under the fence.
K: What about putting boards along the base of the fence? You didn’t want to do that? [It should be noted that at this point we had already purchased, transported, and begun installing most of the stones for the wall, so there was no turning back.]
Me: Well, that seemed like a much bigger project than just lining stones up along the fence.
K: [looks at the wall and the stones, then at me, then back at the wall] Huh.
She is a good friend. And she did get a computer out of the deal.
The pooches were quite confused on their first journey outdoors post-wall. They ran along it, seemingly trying to find a way to access their hole. Since building the wall, they have *not* been as interested in going outside as they were before. I wonder why.
And my next outdoor project? Building raised beds, complete with chicken wire fence, to plant my rapidly growing garden.
