a single Seattle dyke exploring parenting, dog training, being gluten free, and more.

Yesterday I got a much-needed haircut. My typically short hair had been getting longer and longer over the past months as I debated what I wanted to do with it. Well, yesterday, I’m happy to say, I cut it off - back to the length it has been for the past 7 years or so, [...]

Last night my Maybe Baby group went to see Andrea Askowitz give a reading from her book My Miserable, Lonely Lesbian Pregnancy. The reading was at Bailey/Coy, Seattle’s friendly lesbian-owned bookstore. Askowitz was a single lesbian mom by choice when she got pregnant and had her baby, so I was especially looking forward to her [...]

In February I bought an exercise machine from Sharper Image. The plan was that I could work out easier at home than by going to the gym four times a week. Well, the thing has never been great, but I’ve made it work … until today - when it broke. Literally. [...]

Yesterday was Seattle’s annual Solstice Parade and fair (the fair itself continues today). This parade is one of my all-time favorite things about Seattle, especially because there are no advertisers allowed. It’s truly a parade by the people, for the people, and it shows some of the best of Seattle’s fun quirkiness.

I have begun to find other LGBTQ single parents (and prospective parents) by choice - first virtually and now in person - and that sense of community has been wonderful. I started out feeling that there were very, very few of us in this subgroup of a subgroup of a subgroup - and put a [...]

Last night I went to my friend J’s birthday party. (Happy b-day, J!) It was at a bar and included wild dart throwing (those observing were nearly hit several times), good times with some old friends from grad school, and opportunities to meet many sweet, new people (including one who’s preggo herself). While there, I [...]

I have the oddest printer. A few weeks ago it stopped working. After consulting the troubleshooting guide and getting solutions like “plug in the printer” that were *not* helpful, I decided to just reinstall it. That worked fine for about a week, and then it failed on me again. :( Since I’ve had such a [...]
