Things have been busy for the past few days, sorry for the lack of posts and comments on your blogs. Briefly, here’s what I’ve been up to:

A *ton* of teaching jobs were recently posted for next year and I have been applying like crazy. It is a long process and I have to apply for all of them within a week, so that is where most of my time has gone.

I have now done four lupron injections. And, as an update on an earlier post, it is going quite fine. Fear of needles (at least the teeny, tiny lupron ones) is gone. Actually, I kind of oddly look forward to the injections each morning – both for the structure they provide (did I mention I love structure?) as well as the sense that I am doing something proactive that will help get me closer to a baby.

My pup Cassie has a ton of allergies and will need to start allergy shots. I am a bit sad for her, but mostly relieved that her allergies will require shots – they have been really bad and if the test results said they weren’t bad enough to require shots, I wasn’t sure where we would go next. My other pup, Zoe, gets allergy shots and after about a year is doing fantastic with them. She is almost off her allergy meds.

Only four more BCPs left. I will not miss them.

My suppression check is scheduled for next Thursday, the 27th.

I got offered a job teaching summer school (kindergarten) this year! Sooo excited.

Plus, I will be an Area Leader at my favorite queer camp for one of its lovely weeks this summer. Again, sooo excited.

Lupron keeps your pituitary from producing hormones and its been nice and relaxing not to have *any* mood swings (though also odd not to have any strong emotions at all.)

My stepbrother announced his engagement to his (conservative Christian but very sweet) fiance and their wedding *this August.* This caused a lot of family drama (because of the quick turn-around, need for people to adjust schedules when doing so wasn’t always possible, etc.) It seems to all be worked out now.

For my last three BFNs from IUIs (Jan, Feb, and March), I bought myself something as a bit of a consolation prize. The last one, kin.der eggs (which I fell in love with when living in Germany) finally arrived, imported from Canada, after a much too long wait (due to poor customer service, etc., that eventually caused me to cancel my order and place a new one with a different company.) But they. are. here. Only they don’t taste as good as the German ones, so my little sis, who is in Deutschland right this minute, is sending me some good German ones.

Thanks so much for all your kind comments about my post on “deserving” a baby. They are much appreciated and it is so wonderful to have people out there who understand. I’m in a bit of a better place right now (helped, no doubt, by the lupron-induced lack of strong emotions.)

I’ve been vegetarian for about ten years. In that time, I only ate chicken on a trip to Italy, because I wasn’t sure what gluten free food I would find. In all that time, I never had any craving for meat. Not once. Yet for the past week, ever since visiting my lovely locally-owned co-op grocery store, I have had an intense craving for the chicken dinner they were selling in their deli section. After debating about it for most of the week and then getting my negative pregnancy results, I decided to go ahead and get it. I needed some cheering up after the preggo results. So yesterday afternoon I went out and treated myself.

After I ate it, I buried the bones in the kitchen trash (to keep them away from the pups) and headed out to meet my friend A for tea. (Tea was lovely, by the way, and it was great to see her – and learn she’s thinking of becoming a history teacher!) I returned home, was pretty exhausted, and went to sleep early. I didn’t step foot in the kitchen.

This morning, I got up, let the dogs out and discovered they had left me a little surprise in the middle of the kitchen: the bag I had buried the chicken bones in. And just the bag. As for the bones, they now live inside my two sweet pups. I called the vet and this afternoon took my girls in to get exams and X-Rays. It turns out Miss Zoe ate most of the bones. I am now quarantined in my house until further notice (minus school tomorrow when the girls will be at the vet) so I can observe them. Apparently should they start vomiting, they need to get surgery *immediately.* They seem to be doing okay for now, and I am crossing my fingers that everything comes out the other end okay.

So, let’s recap. I had my chicken dinner. And then, in response, I get two sick pups, a $500 vet bill, and am not allowed to leave the house. Think someone is trying to tell me something? I sure won’t be eating any more chicken anytime soon!

Seattle had its first snow of the season yesterday and today. When I lived in Maine, we would get sick of the snow by the end of the winter. In Seattle, though, we usually only get snow once or twice a year, so it’s always a real treat. Someone forgot to tell the city that, and so we are notoriously unprepared for snow and wind storms. We’ll take rain any day of the year, but give us a bit of snow and the whole city falls apart. It is fun, though, and reminds me of growing up in Jersey.

When I got home last night, I let the dogs out to play in it. Here’s a video of them on the back deck. It’s also (dog trainer hat *on*) a great example of dogs playing well together -- my younger pup, Cassie (the tricolor one), has especially beautiful play skills. Enjoy!

I went to many of the events and loved it. Last year I skipped most of them because of my parents’ Conservative Cruise got into Seattle the same weekend. (Yes, you read that right. People from Fox News and other right-wing pundits were on a cruise giving speeches on various conservative issues, and it came back to Seattle on Pride weekend. Whoever planned that was either very well-informed or woefully, woefully ignorant of the world outside their box. I’m guessing the latter.) Anyway, this year, I went to the dyke march Saturday and hung out with friends afterwards. I was thrilled that my old friend T from Camp Ten Trees was friends with friends of friends of friends of mine, and so we ended up hanging out during and after the march! I hadn’t seen him in years – it was really wonderful to catch up with him.

Saturday I watched the parade with E, K, and E’s mom (she wanted to “support the gays.”) We got a spot in the shade, which was great because it was extremely hot. I brought my pup Cass along; she did really well and got lots of attention. We stayed briefly at Seattle Center (way too hot and way too crowded) before heading to an early dinner and then I went to the Indigo Girls concert! So awesome. I debated for a brief moment just crashing at home because I was exhausted from all the running around all weekend, but I’m so glad I went. Their music was, as always, exactly what I needed. I loved seeing my friends (a different group than I’d seen the rest of the weekend). Plus, there was a little girl sitting behind us wearing a t-shirt that said “My Parents are Big Gay Liberals.” How great is that?

Pride brings a great sense of community, and that is my favorite part. I ran into so many friends throughout the weekend, which I loved. Seattle’s queer community is losing so many resources right now and feels really fractured to me, and so this year’s Pride was especially important to me. I had high hopes, and it lived up to them.
